This is just a quick project to create a visual document of the genealogy of the musical madness in Memphis from Furry Lewis to where we are today (2026). It illustrates the direct line between Furry Lewis to the more successful and compelling bands on the Goner Records label. While no less compelling, I have excluded the majority of Memphis bands simply to streamline the connections between the past and the present. I also tried to only represent direct connections that I can verify or are painfully obvious, so, if your bands not on here, that’s why. I may go back and cite my sources but some places you can check for these connections include Jim Dickinson’s autobiography “I’m Not Dead, I’m Just Gone” and Tav Falco’s “Ghosts Behind the Sun”.
